What we did in class today 10-26-10/HMWK

Today we talked about how the lost boys had a hard time adapting to America and a new culture. We also talked about how they had a hard time forgetting their bad past in Sudan. They were tramatized by the death of all their family and friends. One of the lost boys even went crazy because of this. Also we talked about how war affects war veterans in their daily lives. In the movie we see the lost boys get deeper into their time in America and they also found some of there family lost in the war. they start sending them money to support them so they need more jobs so their life gets miuch harder.

What we watched in the movie.

We watched the lost boys finally moving to America. One group moved to Syracuse and the other to Pittsburg. They got jobs at a factory and a McDonalds. They have to pay back the airfare for the flight there to the government. They also have to support themselves now and pay for the apartment. They feel bad for their friends back home and want to support them.

Homework 10-22-10 part 2: Civil War

The Civil war in Sudan was caused by a power struggle between the North and South parts of Sudan. This started because when Sudan merged into one country a lot of the power was given to the North. The South felt resentful and fought back. This created the conflict that made the lost boys run away. Also a drought in the North caused more want for the land in the South increasing tensions. The conflict first started in 1983 and lasted 22 years. About 2 million were killed and 4 million deprived of their homes. This was an ugly war due to the casualties and the people it left homeless like the lost boys.

Homework 10-21-10

The lost boys came from the African Country of Sudan. They were forces to run away from their home due to civil war. If they were to stay they would have been killed. The boys were all from 5-10+ in age and had to travel over 1000 miles on their own.
The first place the lost boys settled was in Ethiopia. Here they lived in a refuge camp for a few years. Then once again the government toppled in Ethiopia just like in Sudan. Ethiopia could not care for the lost boys anymore so they had to send them off to somewhere else. Once again the lost boys were stuck wandering through the desert.
Finally the lost boys arrived in Kenya to end their journey. Here they settled in yet another refugee camp. Life in the camps wasn't too good compared to how we live but was still better than wandering through the desert. Food supplies always seemed to be low and they didn't have much of a future. They still had more food than than in the desert and they got an education. Finally they got safety from all the dangers that hurt them all throughout their life.

What we did in class today 10-21-10

Today we watched a movie called god grew tired of us. It was about the lost boys of sudan who had to leave their homeland to travel away after a civil war. So far it has been a pretty interesting movie. We have only seen a part of it. We also had a shadow today.

Blog on my Past.

My family is half from South America and the other half of my family is from Germany but most born in the U.S. My dad’s of the family is the side who came from South America. They all came from Ecuador a country near Colombia in South America. My mother’s side of my family has most of our ancestors in Germany.
My mother’s side of the family has a lot of ancestors from Germany. Most of the people from my mom’s side were born in America.  My mom and grandparents were all born in America. A lot of my Aunts and Uncles were born in the U.S. also.
My dad’s side of the family has almost all of their ancestors in Ecuador, a small country in South America. My grandparents moved to America from Ecuador. They lived in the capital of Ecuador, Quito, before moving to America. When they moved my dad was born here in America. A lot of my family still lives there like my great grandparents. My uncle also was born here in America. My grandparents actually now own a business that helps people immigrate to America. My grandparents came to America in 1965 after they were married.
My family has lived in Maryland our entire lives. Actually we have lived in or around Harford County for most of our lives. My mom grew up in Kenwood and then moved to our house in Abingdon. My dad moved to our house at the same time because he was married to my mom already. My dad actually lived near Bel Air and went to John Carroll for High School and so did my Uncle.
So basically my family comes from Germany and Ecuador. Most of my close relatives have more ancestors in Ecuador. None of my family members are directly German but they have ancestors in Germany. So most of my ancestors are form South America and Europe.

Blog on my Future.

There are a lot of places I would like to move when i get older. To find which places are my top two I have to look at what pull forces are most important to me and what push forces would be the most problematic to moving to that area.
Some pull forces that would make me want to move somewhere have to do with my job, family, and things to do. A good pull force would be living near my family. I would want to visit my family and the closer I lived to them the easier that would be. Also a good job that i actually like to do would be important. Basically that place would have to have a good job for me. Finally things to do to stay healthy are important. I wouldn’t like to live in a city because staying healthy would be hard since it’d be harder to run and bike.
Now the push forces would pretty much be the opposites of the pull forces. I wouldn’t want to live to far away from my family in Maryland that it’s too much of a problem to see them. I wouldn’t want to live in a place where my job wouldn’t be good. Finally a place where it’s hard to exercise would not be a place where I want to live.
One place I would like to live at is near Denver, Colorado. I would like to live here because I love Colorado and the mountains. This area would be my dream place to live at. I would love going to the mountains to bike, and ski all year. I would also like to own my own shop that could feed off the major tourism this area gets. It would probably be something to do with outdoors things like biking. One big problem is distance between me and my family. Visiting my family would be very hard due to how far away they are and not being at my own business. Overall the positives of things I like and the tourism for business balances out the negatives so I would like to move here.
Another place I would like to move is to a seaside town. I would like to do this because of a few reasons. I like the seaside and things like fishing and boating. I also like the beach. I would like to be a fisherman if I moved to one of these towns. Some pull factors of moving to a seaside factors are the jobs available. During the summer these seaside towns attract a lot of tourism which could rake in a lot of money for any tourism business. Also fishing is a big industry if you move to a town known for certain fish. Also seaside towns are just relaxing places to live and it would be enjoyable. Some push factors are the dangers of hurricanes or flooding. These could cause a lot of damage to you or even be fatal to you. Another push factor is the total offseason for the tourism and fishing. During the winter there is barely any tourism in the seaside towns so the economy drops. The good and bad are about equal here so its average.
Overall I’d rather move to the mountains for better economy and lifestyle. A seaside town would be nice but it’s not my number one.

What we did in class 10/12/10

Today we took a quiz and it was pretty easy. We could use the internet to find answers with our blog and sites like wikipedia or cia factbook. It was worth a test though. We also learned we had a two part project to do over our long weekend about our future and our past.
